Welcome
It is a joy to welcome you to our website where it is our desire to paint a picture of what it means to the people of Grace Church to live as “A community of hope for all people.” This is a work in progress.
Grace Church is an urban United Methodist Church in downtown Wilmington which has committed itself to proclaiming Christ through faith, ministry, and the arts in the heart of the city. It is comprised of people from the suburbs and the city who are drawn to worship in a cathedral style setting.
As a church family, we are constantly looking for new ways to share the reasons for the hope we have. As you peruse the website, you will find hope expressed through inspirational, thematic worship which includes sacred music that invites us into an experience of God, that touches our hearts, and preaching that idyllically encourages us to apply the sacred stories of the Bible to daily living. You will find hope expressed through the compassionate outreach ministries; through the sharing of joys and concerns, of communal prayers; through the excellent teaching in our Preschool; through the arts initiative that includes a small gallery; through the small group learning opportunities, and through the fellowship of those who gather.
In a time when we see hope faltering, there is something comforting about connecting to a community where people have hope and recognize that it is a significant factor in making a difference in the lives of others as well as in their own lives. As our church family continues its historical ministries and looks at its future in this urban setting, we continue to ask ourselves, “How can we improve the lives of others? How can our own lives be improved by this hope, this expectation of a favorable future under God’s direction?
If you are on this website because times are difficult at present, because you have questions about God, or because you are simply looking for a setting in which to connect with others who have hope, consider visiting with us on a Sunday morning for worship, singing with the choir under the inspiring and excellent direction of Dr. Neil Harmon, joining in an outreach opportunity, or stopping in to the gallery and letting the works of art, hanging there, lead you to reflect on God’s world. We want to build a community of faith that includes you! We are interested in you.
If you are unable to join us in person, I ask you to remember Grace Church and its mission of hope in your prayers. If you are in need of specific prayer, please email your prayer request to me at apb@gracechurchum.org, place “Prayer Request” in the subject line, and we will pray for you.
May you know that peace which passes all understanding,
Anne Pruett-Barnett
